Concealed Post Base Installation Instructions Aluminum & HDPE | Timber Ties Step 1 – Position the Base Position the post base on the concrete foundation, ensuring proper alignment with the timber post. Step 2 – Anchor to Concrete Using the two mounting holes in the base plate, mark and drill the concrete. Secure the base using two appropriately sized concrete anchors, following the anchor manufacturer's specifications. Step 3 – Drill the Timber Post Locate the centre of the bottom of the timber post and drill a 1-3/8" diameter hole, minimum 6" deep, to accommodate the 1-1/4" aluminum tube. Ensure the hole is straight and centred. Step 4 – Install the Post Lower the timber post over the aluminum tube until it rests firmly on the base plate. Check that the post is properly aligned and plumb. Step 5 – Secure with Dowels Choose one of the following fastening methods: Option A – Included 3/8" Galvanized Dowels Pre-drill two 3/8" holes through the timber and aluminum tube. Position the holes perpendicular (90°) to one another at different heights. Insert the two included galvanized steel dowels, ensuring they are fully seated. Option B – Rothoblaas Self-Drilling Dowels Install two compatible Rothoblaas self-drilling dowels through the timber and aluminum tube. Select the appropriate dowel length based on the timber dimensions. Follow Rothoblaas installation specifications. Step 6 – Final Inspection Ensure the timber post is fully seated, plumb, and securely fastened. Verify that both concrete anchors and dowels are properly installed. Important Installation Notes Aluminum tube diameter: 1-1/4" Required timber bore diameter: 1-3/8" Minimum timber bore depth: 6" Timber connection: Two 3/8" galvanized dowels or two compatible Rothoblaas self-drilling dowels Concrete connection: Two appropriately specified concrete anchors All connections must be installed in accordance with applicable building codes, engineered requirements, and fastener manufacturer specifications.
